I grew up in Henderson, North Carolina in the 60’s and 70’s. Being a smaller town, I was known for occasionally running with the wrong crowd and getting into things that would embarrass my parents had they ever found out.

Knowing that I wasn’t ready for college, my mother suggested I look into going in the military for several years. Several weeks and beers later, myself and two close friends had enlisted in the Army. My few years turned into 20 years with 10 of those serving in Germany. I retired as a First Sergeant (E-8).
I had been told that after retiring from the Army, I should look for a state job. So I found the NCDMV. I worked in multiple positions such as a Driver License Examiner, License & Theft Auditor, License Plate Agency Auditor, and a School Bus Driver Trainer. After almost 28 years with the NCDMV, I retired and restarted Opa’s Auctions.

While in Germany on my first tour of duty, I met and fell in love with a girl from Minnesota and we got married in 1978. Two children and five grandchildren later, we are preparing for our 50th Anniversary and my third career as Opa at Opa’s Auctions.
